We will continue our Lunch Talk Series on Wednesday, April 29th at University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union (1720 P ST, Lincoln). Lunch will be provided at 11:30 am followed by a presentation at 12:00 pm from Gary Kebbel of the University of Nebraska College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Kebbel will discuss how to reach youth through their Cell Phones and how this is changing the financial industry.
Gary Kebbel became dean of the College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2010. In his first year, he helped create a dozen new classes or give them a new focus. Before coming to Lincoln, he was the journalism program director at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in Miami, where he administered the Knight News Challenge, a $25 million contest to find digital news innovations. As News Director at AOL, he helped build one of the largest news and social sites on the Internet. He is a founding editor of USA TODAY.com and Newsweek.com. Kebbel is a Fulbright Senior Specialist who did his Fulbright work in South Africa. He has also taught about online news for the U.S. State Department in Russia, Taiwan, Tunisia and Latvia. He was a trainer at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute and has consulted on social networking for NORAD and the U.S. Department of Defense. He holds master’s degrees in journalism and in political science from the University of Illinois, and a master of social work degree from the Catholic University of America.
